WITH NATURE ALL WINS
Nature is an ally in the territory that can bring wealth and employment to highly depopulated rural areas. El Hito Lagoon is a protected area of great natural value that can generate new development opportunities in a region with a high potential for ecotourism and the production of organic products.
AGRICULTURE AND CONSERVATION
Cuaderno de Campo, the documentary series of Movistar Plus, addresses El Hito LIFE project keynotes, in an extensive report that focuses on agriculture and livestock as natural allies for the conservation of the salt marshes and steppes of La Mancha in the inner Iberian Peninsula.
PLANTING OF NATIVE SPECIES
Work begins on the recovery of the wetland with the restoration of the albardine and other habitats of priority interest for the European Union. The revegetation plan for El Hito Lagoon includes the planting of 250,000 representative species, some of them endemic, of this protected area.
OVER-SEEDING SUPPORT
Every year, flocks of cranes cross the Iberian Peninsula on their way to the African coasts. On their migratory routes they find in El Hito Lagoon a place to feed and spend the winter. The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha has announced aids to compensate farmers for the damage caused by cranes and steppe birds to their crops. This aid continues the compensatory measures of El Hito LIFE project.
